To register your vehicle in Germany, you will need the following documents:
IF VEHICLE IS FROM GERMANY
- Original Vehicle Registration Letter (Fahrzeugbrief Teil II)
- Original Vehicle Registration document (Fahrzeugschein Teil I)
- Valid Safety & Emissions Inspection Report. MUST be to 2014/45/EU standard and state “Roadworthiness Certificate according to 2014/45/EU,” if done outside of Germany.
- If inspection report above is from OUTSIDE Germany, a VIN check carried out by a German inspection station such as TÜV or Dekra is required.
- Current License Plates IF the vehicle is still registered elsewhere
IF VEHICLE IS FROM ANOTHER EU COUNTRY
- Original Vehicle Registration Documents or equivalent
- Certificate of Conformity (COC) or equivalent
- Proof of ownership, for example, a copy of sales agreement (bill of sale)
- Valid Safety & Emissions Inspection Report. MUST be to 2014/45/EU standard and state “Roadworthiness Certificate according to 2014/45/EU,” if done outside of Germany.
- VIN check carried out by a German inspection station such as TÜV or Dekra. This often requires transporting the vehicle to the nearest inspection station in Germany OR requesting the dealership/seller for export plates to drive the vehicle to Germany.
- Current License Plates IF the vehicle is still registered elsewhere
IF VEHICLE IS FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY OUTSIDE THE EU
- Proof of payment of import tax and duties
- Original Vehicle Registration Documents or equivalent
- Certificate of Conformity (COC) or equivalent
- Proof of ownership, for example, a copy of sales agreement (bill of sale)
- Valid Safety & Emissions Inspection Report. MUST be to 2014/45/EU standard, have verified VIN on report and state “Roadworthiness Certificate according to 2014/45/EU,” if done outside of Germany.
- Current License Plates IF the vehicle is still registered elsewhere
